A Commitment to Jewish Literacy

The London Community Hebrew Day School is committed to promoting Jewish literacy in all our students. We work hard to ensure that our graduates possess a degree of fluency in Hebrew, a solid familiarity with ancient and contemporary Jewish history, and an awareness of the diverse range of cultural and religious practices that reflect the vitality of contemporary Judaism.

With special focus on Jewish history, holidays, access to Jewish texts, and with the goal of fluency in Hebrew, LCHDS provides students with a Judaic foundation that will enrich their own lives, their future families, and the Jewish community as a whole.

“LCHDS has given our children the confidence, the capability and the flexibility to be comfortable in any synagogue. This especially holds true around the time of their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs.”
                            - Beverley and Bernie Zaifman

Our Hebrew teachers are all fluent in the Hebrew language, and classes are conducted in Hebrew as much as possible.

Students in Grades 1, 2 and 3 follow the Tal-Am program, which immerses them in the Hebrew language, and encompasses Bible study, Holidays, and Shabbat ceremonies and knowledge.  Our teachers have attended workshops given by Tal-Am trainers in Montreal and are well-versed in using this extensive program.

Tal-Am is currently being introduced into our higher grades, where students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 will use the Hebrew language part of the program.
